Ubuntu-news is about one simple thing - news about Ubuntu GNU/Linux, so you can find them all in one place.
Out of the box you cannot send files over bluetooth to a computer running the latest stable version of Ubuntu, Intrepid Ibex, 8.10.
I have made a pre-built rootfs for a fast, easy installation of ubuntu jaunty. This version includes a basic bootable system with xserver-xorg, deblet-rescue-menu, aptitude, synaptic and deselect. Just simply extract it to a partition, install a desktop env, and create a bootmenu item.
Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) is primed and ready for installation on Nokia’s N8×0 family of handhelds, which obviously includes the N800 and N810.
Canonical and Intel have teamed up to sponsor the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded (UME) project with a goal of providing the infrastructure and necessary components for mobile application development.
Nokia is hinting that it may further crowd the already-packed netbook space by becoming the first phone maker to jump in. If the Finnish maker of stylish smartphones does make a netbook, it could differentiate itself and make a splash by using ARM and mobile Linux.
Unfortunately my crowbar is hidden away in one of the six million boxes we still have to unpack, so I had to resort to getting internet access via my Nokia N95 8GB.
Own a Nokia device? Use Ubuntu and love the community? Aside from producing great phones and devices which use open source software, Nokia also has been good about “connecting people” in various ways. I thought it would be fun to try a simple experiment which connects Ubuntu users with Nokia devices.
Sending files via bluetooth from your PC to Nokia Express is not difficult using gnome-obex-send. As long as your bluetooth device is recognized by Ubuntu then it can be done. I use regular cheap USB bluetooth.
