I recently upgraded from Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) to Karmic (9.10), and the sound stopped working. As a matter of fact, no sound card was detected

We have recently discovered that possibly all screensavers with lock capabilities are prone to a cleaning lady attack. By issuing Alt+SysRq+f you (or a malicious cleaning lady) can make the OOM killer kill your screensaver process

The Linux-based Ubuntu was fast catching up with the Windows on all these parameters, at least till its latest version 9.10 — the ‘Karmic Koala’.

Hear me, Ubuntu-using brothers and sisters! Never use the on-line upgrade option to switch to a newer version of the operating system!

There seems to be quite a few concerns and complains about recent Ubuntu releases. Are there really that many regressions and instabilities with the latest releases of Ubuntu? Probably!

I am yet to read anywhere that it was stated Karmic was going to be bugless. I am amazed at how people are equating Karmic to Vista in terms of buggs and hiccups.

Another week, another round of tinkering and messing around with Linux doodads. The Ubuntu Koala text installer has a years-old bug, and Fedora 11 LiveCD has a showstopping installer bug. Never a dull moment in computer-land!

Be aware that the initial release of Ubuntu Karmic contains a bug that affects PHP and PEAR, whose fix came a tad too late to make the initial release. The bug is fixed, and will be included in upcoming updates from Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is using its upcoming release as an opportunity to find and fix little bugs that drive users nuts. Referring to these as “papercuts”, the goal is to find and fix 100 of them in time for the next release.

There’s a fairly serious (aka, annoying) bug in Ubuntu 9.04 that causes a certain combination of buttons–most commonly, the Fn+UP/DOWN and volume buttons—to render the keyboard completely dead, as well as the system menus and the right-click menu that appears when using the mouse
