xplash is the package in charge of the new boot splash and it is a userspace software that uses the X interface to draw a splash screen at boot before the desktop loads. See the video below to see it in action!

The institution has been using Information and Technology infrastructures for the past 15 years, but the challenge has been software licensing. This was however, resolved by the Introduction of Open Source software, i.e. Ubuntu 8.04. Parliament is using both the Server (4 Servers) and Desktop (100 Desktops and 2 Laptop computers).

Which came first? The Debian or the Shuttleworth. Much has been made of Mark Shuttleworth’s efforts to get Debian to ‘release on time’ vs. ‘release when ready’. According to Mark this would make things easier for the derivative folks like Ubuntu and upstream developers.

If Ubuntu is based on Testing or is a snapshot of Debian unstable then it should be fine not to actually provide any software other then what is in Ubuntu main and then just have people pull directly from Debian repositories.

I bought an Eee PC 701 a little while ago, when Catch of the Day had them as their daily special. Since I bought it mainly as a travel computer, rather than one I intended to use day-to-day, I’ve hardly touched it since it arrived and I dropped Ubuntu Netbook Remix onto it.

Ubuntu desktop uses Gnome and its default desktop. You can add several interesting features to your contextual menus. ( You get a contextual menu when you right click on an object.). Let us see how we can add a simple script to the contextual menu.
