The mostly unpublicized FOSScamp always meets the weekend before. The FOSScamp un-conference has no program, no invited speakers, and costs nothing. Like some sort of geek Woodstock but smaller, the Ubuntu hip just show up.

In Intrepid Ibex 08.10 there is delightful tabbed browsing, a simple ctrl+T opens up a new tab and you can drag and drop files between tabs. Simple but oh so delightful.

Dell's Inspiron Mini 12 was already blurring the lines between netbooks and traditional laptop when it was shipping with Vista and Vista only, but it looks like Dell is intent on breaking down the walls between the two categories, with it now offering both Ubuntu and Windows XP on the, er… system.

I just setup my machine at home with Ubuntu 8.10 which was so easy think I saved hours off the time it would normally take with Windows. So much is already installed and ready to go and with apt its super quick to download and install extra things things like MySQL, PHP, Apache, Java etc

We are using a slightly different Atom-based system this time and we are comparing the performance on Ubuntu 8.10, Fedora 10, Mandriva 2008, and OpenSuSE 11.1.

I hear that Ubuntu “Just Works”, but I haven't yet had a machine yet where install went without a hitch and everything worked as satisfactory as it would have with an XP install. Not just one machine, but a half a dozen of them, from old Celeron 333mhz to modern core duo desktop machines.

Yesterday, I installed Skype for Linux in Ubuntu. It was very easy. I just had to download a .deb package file and double-click it. I was prompted my password (my account is in sudoers file) and voilà. Some people might say this is okay, but I think this is WRONG!

I finally built FF 2.0.0.18 on Ubuntu 8.04 – the Hardy Heron. I knew it would not be a piece of cake building FF 2.0.0.x on Ubuntu 8.x. The problem started with getting the build requirements (i.e. apt dependent packages).
